“Playing the Building” Exhibit by David Byrne - NYC - 2008
Playing the building is a sound installation in which the infrastructure, the physical plant of the building, is converted into a giant musical instrument. Devices are attached to the building structure — to the metal beams and pillars, the heating pipes, the water pipes — and are used to make these things produce sound.
Croiser l’épée avec un parapluie, associer-le avec une cape qui se gonfle avec vos mouvements et vous voilà super héros urbain.
Deux artistes, Jeff Liebermann et Dan Paluska, ont réalisé pour une marque de vodka, une machine à musique assez incroyable. Par internet, on joue quelques notes sur le clavier de son ordinateur et la machine, basée à New-York s’actionne, rejouant la mélodie. L’internaute peut observer via 4 caméras la machine en fonctionnement. Balles, verres en cristal, percussions sont les instruments de cette machine.
